Prospect Park Zoo Wayfinding System
Wildlife Conservation Society
Perimeter
Vsitors have always had difficulty finding the entrance to the Prospect Park Zoo from within Prospect Park due to the lack of any strong identifier and/or directional elements. In order to address this issue, we refreshed the standard "Prospect Park Zoo" lockup to bring more emphasis to the word "Zoo."This lockup was then turned into a set of large, layered dimensional lettering with a trio of poster cases showcasing beautiful animal photography, and installed on a clearly visible section of the perimeter fence. I provided direction on materials, paint colors and finishes, and sizing for this signage project. Visitors can now quickly and easily see where they need to go to enter the Zoo.

In-park
The interior of the park consists of five main buildings. All of these previously lacked distinctive identifying characteristics. I developed a system that color-coded the buildings based on their functions, to help visitors better navigate the Zoo. Green was used for the amenities buildings and the animal buildings were given their own specific colors.
I also developed a unique set of illustrations for use in color-coding each of the buildings. These were produced in a matte, translucent, colored vinyl, which created a nice visual contrast with the reflective tinted glass on which it was applied. Title panels were painted in a darker, coordinating metallic color with matte vinyl lettering applied on top.

Double pole banners around the sea lion pool reinforce the color-coded system established with the window vinyl on the building facades.
